Josip Brki\u0107, will give a keynote speech entitled \u2018The significance of South-East Europe for the European Union\u2019.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n South-East Europe is not the periphery of the European continent, but rather an integral and historically deeply rooted part of it. For centuries, the region has been shaped by encounters and interactions of European civilisations, cultures, religions, and political ideas. Classical heritage, Roman law, Christianity, humanism, the Enlightenment, Islam and modern European ideas have created social and institutional structures comparable to those in other parts of Europe, thus confirming its enduring connection to the European sphere of civilisation.
