Excerpt from the Chancellor\u00b4s letter on the passing away:<\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

As some of you may have already heard in the media, I regret to inform you of the passing of our Knight of Honour, former Federal Minister Dr. Harald Ofner, who passed away on 8 April 2026, at the age of 93.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

After first training as a high-voltage electrician, Harald Ofner studied law and, following the completion of his doctorate, began a career as a lawyer. He was politically active from an early age and served, among other roles, as deputy mayor, municipal councilor, federal party chairman, and member of the National Council. The highlight of his political career was undoubtedly his appointment as Federal Minister of Justice in 1983. He held this position until 1987.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The achievements of our Knight of Honour have recently been recognized by many of his political colleagues. His integrity, his respectful manner even in the case of disagreements, and his fundamental reforms in certain areas of the law were highlighted by members of all political parties.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Harald was admitted to our community as a Knight of Honour in Bolzano in 2014 and, as long as his health permitted, enjoyed participating in our events. Since 2023, he lived a secluded life and was cared for at home. However, he remained closely connected to our Order right up to the end.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

With the passing of Dr. Harald Ofner, we have lost a highly esteemed Knight of Honour, whom we will miss in our Order community. My deepest condolences, and those of our entire Order, go out to his family and loved ones. I am pleased to enclose the obituary and, as a memento, a photo from the investiture of our Knight of Honour.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
