The significance of South-East Europe for the European Union
11 March 2026
Order Residence, Rennweg 10, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Start: 7.00 pm
As part of an event organised by the advisory board of our Knights of Honour, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, MSc. Josip Brkić, will give a keynote speech entitled ‘The significance of South-East Europe for the European Union’.
South-East Europe is not the periphery of the European continent, but rather an integral and historically deeply rooted part of it. For centuries, the region has been shaped by encounters and interactions of European civilisations, cultures, religions, and political ideas. Classical heritage, Roman law, Christianity, humanism, the Enlightenment, Islam and modern European ideas have created social and institutional structures comparable to those in other parts of Europe, thus confirming its enduring connection to the European sphere of civilisation. Furthermore, in addition to its historical and cultural significance, South-East Europe also possesses considerable economic and strategic potential.
For all these reasons, the analyses and insights of our distinguished guest are of particular interest to us as the European Order of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine.
Therefore, this event will also be streamed online for our members in Central Europe and throughout Europe.
Following the lecture and discussion, we invite to a champagne reception.

26 – 30 August 2026
Friendship trip to Tur Abdin
Dames of the Order of St. Georges
Sometimes there are places that feel as if time has stood still there. Tur Abdin in southeastern Turkey, on the border with Syria and not far from the border with Iraq, is one such place – a landscape full of silence, ancient monasteries, and living traditions.
After our Grand Master Karl von Habsburg visited Tur Abdin in August 2020, the Dames of the Order organized their first trip to Tur Abdin in August 2023, and the next trip is planned for 26 – 30 August 2026, under the patronage of HIRH Karl von Habsburg.
Under the guidance of Ap. Prof. Dr. Aho Shemunkasho, who comes from Tur Abdin and speaks Syrian Aramaic, this will not be an ordinary sightseeing tour, but a journey of encounters and inspiration.
Group size
20 people – there are still about 10–12 places available, therefore please register quickly!
