Bosnia and Herzegovina: Historical roots and European opportunities

On 11 March 2026, the Order of St. George had the honour of welcoming a distinguished political guest: Josip Brkić, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who delivered an insightful lecture on the pivotal role of Southeast Europe in shaping the future of the European Union. With eloquence and clarity, he demonstrated that Southeast Europe is not on Europe’s periphery but at its very heart, highlighting the region’s immense potential and the shared responsibilities of both the EU and the Western Balkan states. A matter of genuine European significance, it resonates strongly with the values upheld by the European Order of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, touching directly upon cooperation, reform, and the broader project of European integration.
