This event, organised in cooperation by the Order of St. George, the Austrian Society for the Protection of Cultural Property and the Austrian Armed Forces, is dedicated to the development of the Austrian Armed Forces and the security policy situation in Austria over the past seven decades. In a historical review and an analysis of the current structure and tasks of the Austrian Armed Forces, the changes in the organisation and its security policy significance will be presented. The programme is rounded off by an outlook on the security-related challenges of the future.

As speakers and panellists, we welcome high-ranking generals who have played a key role in shaping the Austrian Armed Forces, as well as the current Secretary General of the Federal Ministry of Defence. Their expertise will provide fascinating insights into the past, present and future of Austrian security policy.

  • General (retired) Karl Majcen
  • General Lieutenant (retired) Mag. Franz Reißner

21st Salzburg Europe Summit

28 – 30 September 2025
Salzburg, Austria

The SALZBURG EUROPE SUMMIT will take place from 28 to 30 September 2025, which is organised for the 21st time by the Institute of the Regions of Europe (founded by the Chairman of our Knights of Honour, former Governor Prof. Dr. Franz Schausberger). In various formats – from discussion events and workshops to an excursion – this internationally renowned congress will explore the topic of ‘Europe and Hope’.

Under the honorary patronage of Austrian Federal President Alexander van der Bellen, the following are expected: Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Christian Stocker, Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Magnus Brunner, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Adam Szłapka, EU Minister of Poland, Emil Hurezeanu, Foreign Minister of Romania, Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Igli Hasani, Foreign Minister of Albania and many more.

As a new partner of this important conference, the Order of St. George will contribute its own colloquium to the programme for the first time: Led by the well-known moderator and journalist Claudia Reiterer, amongst others Grand Master Archduke Karl and our Knight of Honour Prof. Dr. Jan Peter Balkenende, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands and appointed Minister of State by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander in 2022, will analyse the topic ‘Integrity, Direction, Hope. Why the European Union must rediscover its values – and how can this be achieved?’

An event that is equally interesting for all our Commanderies not only because of its European and Central European accents (comprehensive interpreting services are offered), but also because it offers the opportunity to establish valuable contacts and develop new networks.

This year participation for Dames and Knights of the Order is free!

Up-to-date information and the detailed programme can be found on the website www.salzburg-europe-summit.eu

Discovered too late – the invisible killers in the abdomen
Commandery Wien – Arsenal
Order Residence, Rennweg 10, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Start: 6.30 pm

Colonic cancer is one of the most frequently occurring – and most treatable – typ of cancer if it is diagnosed at an early stage. However, especially in the early stages, the disease often progresses silently and without symptoms.

Assoc. Prof. Priv. Doz. Dr. Gerd Silberhumer, MBA, Austria’s leading surgeon and specialist in gastrointestinal diseases, explains why regular check-ups can save lives, which warning signs need to be taken seriously – and how modern medicine, including transplants, can offer hope in advanced cases.

A powerful lecture for all those who do not want to leave health to chance.
