Otto von Habsburg, a European visionary and heir to the last reigning Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, Blessed Karl I, was the centre of attention at the event held at the Order Residence on Rennweg on 24 September 2026.
On this occasion, the International President of the Paneuropa Union, the Croatian philosopher and politician Pavo Barišić, paid tribute to Archduke Otto as a visionary thinker who had always clearly and perceptively identified the opportunities and threats to Europe’s unity, freedom and security. The Emperor’s son, who was then a Member of the European Parliament, is said to have made largely unknown contributions to Croatia’s accession to the European Union, because – earlier than others and even in the face of opposition from influential quarters – he urged the Croatian government, at just the right moment and despite widespread reservations, to submit an application for membership.
