† 19.12.2024
Auszug aus dem Kanzlerbrief zum Ableben:
It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of our Spiritual Council member OStR HR Msgr. Mag. Karl Schrittwieser, who left us on 19 December 2024 at the age of 75 and in his 49th year as a priest.
Karl Schrittwieser studied at the Philosophical-Theological College in St. Pölten and at the Paris Lodron University in Salzburg. In 1972 he began working as a religious education teacher in Salzburg, and from 1973 he taught in the diocese of St. Pölten. On 29 June 1976, he was ordained a priest in St. Pölten Cathedral and worked as a parish priest in several parishes. He taught as a religion teacher at various schools for 38 years, becoming a specialist inspector for general secondary schools, agricultural colleges and vocational schools in 1995. On 1 September 2005, Dr. Klaus Küng appointed him Director of the Diocesan Education Office and in 2014 he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Religious Education, Private Schools and the Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule Wien-Krems.
In honour of his work, he was awarded the title of Konsistorialrat in 1994, Oberstudienrat and Monsignor in 2001 and Hofrat in 2007. In 2010, he was awarded the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for services to the state of Lower Austria. He has been a member of the Spiritual Council of the Order of St. George since 2016 and was a member of the Commandery Niederösterreich-Heldenberg.
His great passion was education, especially religious education, which he worked for in his many areas of responsibility. It was a matter close to his heart to accompany children and young people on their path of life and faith. He cultivated traditions, which was a strong bond between him and our Order, and was characterised by his fine sense of humour, for which he was also very popular in our community.
My and our sincere condolences go to all those close to him.
