The last substantive event before this year’s summer break dealt with a topic of great actuality and increasing socio-political explosiveness: On 27 June 2024, former Federal Minister Herbert Scheibner, President of the European Institute for Counter-Terrorism and Conflict Prevention (EICPT) and Dr. Nicolas Stockhammer, Senior Researcher at the EICPT and at the University of Krems, explored questions that have probably preoccupied many of us due to the developments and events of recent times, such as: Where does peaceful protest begin and where does it cross boundaries? Why is it important to differentiate between a cause and a form of protest? What is radical and what is extremist? Is so-called “climate activism” justified and legitimate? What possible developments, scenarios and manifestations are foreseeable? What role do ideologies play in the radical climate protection movement?
