Order-wide Events
Book presentation
17 September 2024, Start: 7 pm
Order Residence, Rennweg 10, 1030 Vienna, Austria
The Order Academy is hosting a lecture on Cajetan von Felder, who was mayor of Vienna, land marshal of Lower Austria, an explorer and much more. Vice-Chancellor Mag. Gerald Ebinger, who has written a book about this versatile and interesting personality, will give an insight into the man, the politician, the internationally recognised entomologist, hist work and legacy.
The focus of the liberal-minded mayor’s term in office was primarily the development of a metropolitan system for the imperial capital and residence city. Examples of Felder’s municipal policies include the construction of the town hall on the Glacis in Josefstadt and the projects for the Central Cemetery and the 1873 World’s Fair. However, the lawyer also made a name for himself as a linguist, scholar and portrait collector.

“The state that everyone wanted in the end”
25 September 2024, Start: 7 pm
Order Residence, Rennweg 10, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Participation also possible online via Zoom
The Committee of Honorary Knights will focus on the recently published book ‘The state that everyone wanted in the end’. The book is about the political role and vision of Engelbert Dollfuß, whose assassination by the Nazis was commemorated for the 90th time at the end of July. As Federal Chancellor, he fought against the general depression following the lost war and the growing desire of politicians and large sections of the population to join the ‘big brother’ Germany. He, however, believed in Austria and in the country’s ability to maintain its independence, even though it did not yet feel like a nation at the time. A personality who continues to polarise opinion.
We are therefore delighted to welcome the author of the book, historian Dr. Hannes Kammerstätter, who opens up surprising new perspectives on Chancellor Dollfuß in his work, to this important and often ideologically distorted chapter of Austrian history. The forewords to his book were written by the Chairman of our Knights of Honour, former Governor of Salzburg Univ. Prof. Dr. Franz Schausberger and Knight of Honour and former President of the Salzburg Parliament Ing. Hans Penz, who will both be present and discuss the book with us.

Courage for Responsibility – Taking a Stand in Times of Shitstorms and Filter Bubbles
Commandery Salzburg/Oberösterreich/Bayern – Hohensalzburg
Münchener Herrenclub, Brienner Straße 13, 80333 Munich, Germany
Start: 6 pm
The neglect of our debate culture jeopardises our society – and it jeopardises us and our messages. That’s why we want to discuss with people who have publicly stood up for their opinions, experienced cancel culture first-hand and developed techniques to survive.
After a champagne reception in the elegant and discreet premises of the Münchener Herrenclub, our guests will share their experiences of advocating controversial positions in today’s public sphere and then discuss with us the opportunities, risks and promising communication techniques. This takes place in the form of a ‘fishbowl discussion’, which allows the audience to be positioned in a circle around the speakers in the inner circle, allowing for the alternating inclusion of panellists. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to discuss the topic in greater depth with each other and with the guests during a flying dinner.
Welcoming address by Procurator Baron Vinzenz von Stimpfl-Abele

The situation of Christians in Iraq and the veneration of St. George in the Orient
Spiritual Council and Dames of the Order of St. George
Order Residence, Rennweg 10, 1030 Vienna, Austria
Participation also possible online via Zoom
Start: 7 pm
Christians are under severe pressure and often discriminated against almost everywhere in the Orient, but in Iraq their survival has been made almost impossible by war, chaos, the terror of the so-called ‘Islamic State’ (IS) and Shiite radicals. However, many traditional Christians want to remain in Iraq, especially in the northern Kurdish autonomous region, and live their religion openly in their own homeland. They have a right to our solidarity and support!
The Dames of the Order of St. George, in conjunction with the Spiritual Council, have therefore decided to do all they can to support the Christians in northern Iraq. They want to help them rebuild or renovate at least one St. George’s Church, especially as St. George is highly revered in the Orient. Many churches in Syria and Iraq have been destroyed by IS terrorists. From the Dames’s point of view, these churches also play an important role as a social hub, because for the Christians they are more than just a place of prayer and worship, but the centre of their social life and a prerequisite for them to stay.
An informative evening will therefore be organised, at which Father Samir Al-Khoury, Chaldean Catholic priest from Enishke, who will be travelling with young people from northern Iraq, will talk about the situation of Christians in his home country of Iraq; the Dames’s project partner from the ‘Initiative Christlicher Orient’ (ICO), Stefan Maier, will describe the humanitarian and political situation in Iraq. The lectures will be held in English and German. The speakers and Father Jens Petzold, who works in Suleimaniya, will be available for discussion on this evening. The Dames and the Spiritual Council cordially invite everyone to this evening – feel free to bring friends and interested people along.
Further information can be found in the invitation below.
