The Order Day in Vienna, held on a glorious late-summer’s day, was marked by the accolade.
It is precisely in times of great upheaval and uncertainty that we need “people who are prepared to stand up for what is true”. This was emphasised by Klaus Küng, Bishop Emeritus of St Pölten and Chairman of the Spiritual Council of the Order of St George, at the Order Day 2026, held in mid-October at the Salesian Church in Vienna. During his homily, Father Thomas Baron von Stellwag-Carion expanded on the main celebrant’s thoughts: he noted that modern society finds it difficult to commit itself, to keep its promises and to accept the disadvantages that come with standing by one’s convictions. Chivalry, by contrast, means taking responsibility for the common good.
